Pattern Sequence Tips & Strategy

Most pattern puzzles are solved the same way: split the tile into three questions and answer them one at a time.

1. One attribute at a time

Cover the colors and shapes mentally and read only the numbers: 2, 4, 6, 8…? Then read only the colors: red, blue, green, yellow, red…? Then only the shapes. Most sequences change one attribute obviously and leave the others alone — the obvious one is your foothold.

2. Say the rule out loud before you tap

"Numbers climb by two, colors cycle, shapes stay." If you cannot say it in one sentence, you have not found it yet — keep looking instead of guessing. Guesses cost lives; sentences are free.

3. Suspect interleaving when nothing fits

If the full sequence looks chaotic, split it: read tiles 1, 3, 5 as one sequence and tiles 2, 4 as another. Interleaved puzzles hide two simple rules inside one messy-looking row, and the split makes both visible at once.

4. Work backwards from the options

The four options differ from each other in only a few attributes. Compare them: if three options share a color and one does not, the rule probably concerns color. The options are clues too.

5. Learn from the reveal

Every wrong answer reveals the rule. Read it, even when it stings — the same rule families repeat, and today's reveal is tomorrow's instant solve.
